The exhibit "18th Century Relics of the Griffin Shipwreck" presented to the public the results of a fourteen-month project undertaken under direction of Franck Goddio and the National Museum to excavate and study the remnants of an East India Company vessel.
The exhibition took on a great significance because this was the first time in its history that the National Museum in Manila put up an exhibit on marine archaeology covering a specific excavation.
The exhibit allowed to take a peek into the endlessly fascinating study of Chinese porcelain, China's trade with Europe, and not incidentally, England's 18th century designs on the Philippines. More important, it introduced the "exciting and revealing" world of marine archaeology — its demands, frustrations, and also its possibilities.
