In October 1999 the Naval Museum in Madrid inaugurated a space dedicated to the "San Diego", a Spanish galleon discovered, then excavated under direction of Franck Goddio in collaboration with the National Museum of the Philippines from 1991 to 1994. The remains had been found 52 metres underwater, after extensive researches in archives and electronical surveys. The exhibition « Treasures of the San Diego » resulting from the excavation travelled from Paris, to New York, Berlin and Manila. Nowadays, the story of the "San Diego" and the artifacts found are exhibited in the National Museum in Manila, the Maritime Museum in Madrid, the French Maritime Museum in Port-Louis and in Musée national des Arts asiatiques Guimet in Paris.
