Leonie Hoff

Leonie Hoff works as a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Oxford and IEASM, with a background in Classical Archaeology and Egyptology. Her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Damian Robinson examined figurines from Franck Goddio’s excavations at Thonis-Heracleion, exploring their production and use as evidence for cultural interaction in the Late to Ptolemaic period.

Her long-standing love of diving and history led her to maritime archaeology, where these interests naturally come together. Leonie is grateful to be part of a team whose work has significantly advanced the study of these sites and of maritime archaeology as a discipline. For her, the complexity of the sites is precisely what makes them so compelling: ‘’ there is always more to learn, and the work always remains challenging. It’s fascinating to see how the evidence fits together and to follow the entire process of the mission, from excavation to the final publication.’’
