Vat

On the sides of this red granite vat (205 cm) found in the Amun/Heracles temple are two holes. One due to utilitarian re-use after the pagan period and the other probably due to its use as a garden tank. Inside the vat an image of god Osiris was made from earth and mixed grains, germinated and the exposed to the sun and dried. Afterwards it was shipped on a golden boat that was taken up to the god’s temple which must have been located somewhere in the Canopic necropolis. Then this obsolete “corpse” was disposed of.
