Sanctuary Khonsu-Thoth

Although the sanctuary seems to have been looted in antiquity, some beautiful little limestone sarcophagi were discovered on site. Their dimensions suggest that they may have contained animal remains the size of ibis birds The emptied sarcophagi and their lids were found scattered down the slope of the islet. Maybe this was the location of an ibis cemetery connected to the god Khonsu-Thoth who was already revered in Thonis-Heracleion in the sixth century B.C.
