Georges Brocot
25 November 1944, France
Has worked with Franck Goddio since 1998.
Professional diver in archaeology for the Ministry of Culture of France for 23 years. First worked as a diver, then became dive master and then became the head of the laboratory, specializing in the treatment of wood and casting techniques. (His very first dive was in the Red Sea when he was in the Army.)
He has now created his own company called ART’KEO Moulages International, specializing in casting and moulds for all types of archaeology... both underwater and terrestrial.
His favorite work has been this year (2001) and last year, casting the wonderful statues found in Heracleion and Menouthis for scientific purposes. He considers these statues to be the high point of his career… especially the statue of Isis in 2000 and the Isis and perfect Stele of Heracleion from this year.
He personally likes to cast statues, more than other materials, though he works in all types… especially the female statues! He loves living on boats, diving, the discovery and research involved and especially the fine work in the water – the type of work that requires great precision. He is the “King of Patience”, as his casting work takes a lot of time and great detail.
